The Society of Automotive Engineers, or SAE, specifies a 37 degree angle flare or seat be used with high pressure hydraulic tubing. These are commonly called JIC couplings or fittings. The JIC 37 degree flare male will mate with a Female JIC only. The JIC male has straight threads and a 37 degree flare seat. The JIC female has straight threads and a 37 degree flare

The JIC 37 degree flare male will mate with a Female JIC only. The JIC male has straight threads and a 37 degree flare seat. The JIC female has straight threads and a 37 degree flare seat. The seal is made on the 37 degree flare seat. Some sizes may have the same threads as the SAE 45 degree flare. You must carefully measure the seat angle to differentiate between the two types.
